Steven Adler Says Reunited ‘Appetite’ Guns N’ Roses Lineup Would Be Better Than Ever

In the unlikely event that the most famous lineup of Guns N’ Roses should reunite, Steven Adler says they’d likely produce the best album of their career. Yes, even better than Guns N’ Roses’ celebrated 1987 debut.

“I think it would blow Appetite for Destruction away,” Adler told Mitch Lafon. “All of us are such better players. And when we did Appetite, we were only adults for maybe three or four years. And that’s from our experiences in life, that’s what we came up with. Now we’ve been adults for 30 years, and I’ve been through ups and downs, like an emotional roller coaster. I have a lot to write about, and I know the other guys, if we got together, being adults now and knowing what we know, and [having] been through what we’ve been through, I think we could make an even bigger kickass record.”

At least one notable opportunity has already passed. Adler joined Slash and Duff McKagan on stage when Guns N’ Roses were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, while stalwart band leader Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin opted out.

Rose has since been quoted as saying that he won’t consider such a reunion simply to cash in, preferring that there be some creative impetus. Adler says he understands the sentiment, but adds a third — he says more important — argument.

“That’s nice to say he wouldn’t do it for the money,” Adler says, “but if he needs a reason to do it, I have a billion reasons, and that’s a billion people around the world who love us and have supported us and want more than anything to see us. … It’s Axl’s call on doing a reunion. It’s all up to him. And I love him and I have his back, and I support him in everything he does except for if he doesn’t wanna play for the fans, I can’t support that. ‘Cause it’s all for the fans.”

Adler, who was with Guns N’ Roses from 1985 through his drug-related ouster in 1990, also noted that he’s passed the 400-day mark for sobriety — adding that “I have never been happier, I have never played better or had more fun playing.”

Bumblefoot Doesn’t Want To Make Any Public Statements About Guns N’ Roses – Blabbermouth.net

“I can’t erase a decade of history and I can’t stop the media from asking what they want to ask and making up their own titles on their interviews and posts. No matter how much I ask them not to do it.”

He added: “I’ve been honoring a request to not make any public statements about anything related to it, which continues to put me in a very awkward position that I don’t want to be in. Not how I do things, repeatedly taking the bullet on this one.”

STED: Riverport Amphitheatre, Maryland Heights, MO

Før ‘You Could Be Mine,’ fortæller Axl at “With your bitch slap rappin’ and your cocaine tongue you get nothin’ done” var i AFD noterne. Læs mere om sagen her.

Axl: ” When I got back onstage, I’d lost a contact, and I couldn’t see. My first thought was, I’m out of here. I’m paying these guys’ [venue staff] salary, I don’t need to be treated like that by them. I went backstage, and found a new lens. It was getting crazy and we decided we were going to go back out and try to play, because we didn’t want people to get hurt. ” [RS 22.Aug ’91]

Slash: “We were backstage, watching cops on stretchers all bloody and shit, and it was like, “Fuck! How could this be happening?” I was so scared somebody was going to die. It was completely out of hand. This guy was shooting pictures the whole show. He’d been doing it, and probably having a good laugh. I saw Axl tell the security guard, ‘Stop that fuckin’ guy!’ and the security’s watching the band. So Axl went in, and that’s when it started. We wanted to go on again. I know there’s a certain amount of blame that can be put on us, because if you don’t know us, you might say, ‘Well, you could’ve done something to keep it together.’ But from our point of view, it all happened so fast, we didn’t know what the fuck was going on. The kids had a field day. I lost all my amps, my guitar tech got a bottle in the head, someone got knifed, our stage and video equipment and Axl’s piano were trashed. I don’t know. It was a fluke. It shouldn’t have happened… but it did.”

Duff: “The band was shoved into a small van and told to get on the floor so we weren’t visible. Slash’s hat was sticking up. The driver asked him to take it off. When the van drove our of the enclosed part of the venue and into the parking lot, I could hear the mayhem had spread outside. As we pulled out of the parking lot, I peeked out the back window – I could see speaker cabinets and pieces of our pianos. Kids had gotten tired of carrying them or dumped them when the cops showed. Clots of cops ran around with batons and pepper spray. Kids ran this way and that. Medics rushed around treating bloodied fans. Police had people in cuffs. It looked like a war zone” [Duff’s biografu, “It’s So Easy”, 2011, s. 186-188]”

The place allowed bottles and knives and whatever else inside… And they [public] think I did it just because I wanted to stop somebody from taking my picture. The camera was the last straw, the final thing. I was sick of it, at that point, with the security in the front. There was a weird space in my mind the entire night. I was thinking, “Something isn’t right up here. Why is there this weird attitude, this passiveness, in the security?” There was no feeling that they were on the same team as us. Their feeling towards the crowd wasn’t right. A young boy and a girl were getting shoved over here while rowdy bikers are being allowed to do whatever they want. What is going on? I was very confused… One thing that is not being said in the press is that Earl Gabiddon [Axl’s bodyguard and head of GNR security at the time] was on the headset and he warned these guys [venue staff] in the front that either the cameras go or the show is off. He warned them four times. He was doing his job. [Musician, “There’s a Riot Going On,” Sept 1991]

Før ‘Only Women Bleed,’ beder Axl bandet give ham: “…a little Bob Dylan, a little bit of Alice Cooper and a lot of Slash!”

STED: Thompson-Boling Center, Knoxville, TN

STED: Rupp Arena, Lexington, KY

‘Estranged‘ spilles usædvanligt tidligt i sættet. Are you having a good time? I bet you paid a lot of money for those seats. I’ll give you $500 for your tickets.” Senere før “KOHD” holder Axl de to billetter op og siger til publikum: “We got rid of the boring fu@#ers!” Derefter ændrer han på teksten til sangen: “Momma take these tickets from me, I can’t use them and I’m bored. It’s gettin’ dark to dark to see. Kick my ass out the back fu@#in’ door.” Omkring 21 personer blev arresteret af Lexington police and state Alcoholic Beverage Control lørdag aften, da GnR spillede, fordi de blev snuppet i at drikke alkohol.
